Injecting "other substance" directly into the vein? lethal?

I heard people injecting blood, stimulants, drugs and even water directly into their vein before but I'm just curious what if a person do an IV into their blood vessel "other substance" being things like say fruit juice? will it be the same as consuming it orally if no then why not?
